India recently won a Test series in Pakistan for the first time |
India have asked South Africa to pass up scheduled Tests in November in favour of more one-day internationals. The plan would run contrary to International Cricket Council rules, which require a minimum of two Tests per tour.
"India played seven in South Africa so they are looking at us doing the same in November," said Brian Basson, Cricket SA director of playing affairs.
"There certainly wouldn't be time for any Test matches if we do that."
India's cricket board are keen to make the most of Australia's Test tour, which precedes the arrival of Graeme Smith's side.
But India played seven one-day matches when they toured South Africa three years ago and international protocol demands that is returned.
"One of the many problems with doing that is when we will actually fit the series in," Basson told Cricinfo.
"The next available gap when we are both free doesn't come until March and April 2006."
