West Indies lose Lawson
Jermaine Lawson
Lawson has been unlucky with injuries in the last year
West Indies have been forced to make a change to their ICC Champions Trophy because fast bowler Jermaine Lawson has a stress fracture in his back.

He will be replaced by Darren Sammy, who was in the squad for the NatWest Series in England earlier this summer.

Sammy was chosen to make his debut against New Zealand at the Rose Bowl.

The match was washed out by rain but it counts on Sammy's record because the two teams had exchanged teams and the captains had tossed up.

He is the first St Lucian to reach international level, having spent two summers on the MCC groundstaff at Lord's.

West Indies are in the same first round group as South Africa and Bangladesh for the Champions Trophy.

Only the group winners will progress to the semi-final stage.

Lawson is expected to be out of action for up to six weeks.

It is the latest injury setback to hamper the Jamaican's progress at international level since he took 7-78 in a Test match in Antigua against Australia last year.

He did not return to the West Indies team until the recent tour to England.

Revised squad: Ian Bradshaw, Dwayne Bravo, Courtney Browne (wkt), Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Corey Collymore, Mervyn Dillon, Chris Gayle, Wavell Hinds, Sylvester Joseph, Brian Lara, Ricardo Powell, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Darren Sammy, Dwayne Smith.
