Wasim welcomes tour move
Wasim Akram
Wasim says the Indian team will be well looked after
Leading Pakistan cricket figures have welcomed the news that India intends to commit itself to a ground-breaking tour of its Asian neighbour in March.

"Billions of people wanted to see India and Pakistan play cricket," said former captain Wasim Akram.

"I am delighted and feel good for both Pakistan and India."

His upbeat feelings were echoed by current captain Inzamam-ul-Haq, who added: "This will give us a lifetime chance to play against India at home."

Inzamam said the team had been upset over certain media reports which had put doubt on the tour going ahead due to India's security fears.

"Some of the boys did lose heart but I told them to be focused," he said.

Coach Javed Miandad added: "Media reports were not genuine and I knew that since [Indian Prime Minister] Mr Vajpayee had cleared the tour last year he would stick by his decision.

"The last time we toured India there was the same uncertainty but the tour did go ahead."
