Warne may soon be back but McGrath will have to wait longer |
Australian chairman of selectors Trevor Hohns says time is running out for Glenn McGrath to prove his fitness ahead of the tour to Sri Lanka. The 34-year-old paceman has not played a Test since July because of an ankle injury but aims to make his New South Wales comeback on Sunday.
The Test squad for the Sri Lanka series is named on 20 February.
"He's got to get back on the field and as yet that hasn't happened so time is running out," said Hohns.
Predictably, McGrath was not included in the Australia one-day squad for Sri Lanka, named on MOnday.
After failing a fitness test last week, McGrath just has Sunday's one-day match and a four-day game against South Australia starting on Tuesday to prove he is back to his best.
Hohns added: "It's an injury that's taking quite a while to heal, there's no doubt about that.
"Glenn right now is desperately trying to make himself 100% fit before he plays a game."
