Bashar has two centuries in 26 Test appearances | Bangladesh have named leading batsman Habibul Bashar as their new captain for the forthcoming tour of Zimbabwe. Bashar, 31, replaces Khaled Mahmud, who is not even in the squad for the two Tests in February. However, the all-rounder is likely to play in the five-match one-day series which follows. "We chose the best player for the captain's job," chief selector Faruq Ahmed said. The 16-man squad includes uncapped left-arm spinner Manjurul Islam Rana, while batsman Shariar Hossain gets a recall three years after his only Test appearance. Bashar has made 1840 runs, including two hundreds and 16 half-centuries, in 26 matches. Mahmud's captaincy lasted 11 months, but his own poor form meant he regularly came under pressure as Bangladesh continued their three-year search for a maiden Test victory. The team will tour Namibia from 28 January and will play a three-day match and five one-day games there before moving to Zimbabwe on 10 February. Bangladesh Test squad: Habibul Bashar (capt), Rajin Saleh, Khaled Mashud (wkt), Tapash Baisya, Hannan Sarkar, Shariar Hossain, Mohammad Ashraful, Tareq Aziz Khan, Manjurul Islam Rana, Anwar Hossain Monir, Mushfiqur Rahman, Alok Kapali, Mohammad Rafique, Alamgir Kabir, Monjurul Islam, Al Shahriar.
