Harbhajan has yet to come to terms with Australian pitches |
India's Harbhajan Singh has been ruled out of the rest of the tour of Australia to have finger surgery. The off-spinner bowled poorly in last week's opening Test in Brisbane, and was overlooked for the second Test, with Anil Kumble took his place.
"He's getting a lot of medical advice and it's inevitable he'll have to face surgery," said manager Shivlal Yadav.
A replacement slow bowler, Murali Kartik arrived in Adelaide on Thursday but was not picked for the second Test.
Harbhajan, who rose to fame with 32 Test wickets against Australia on their tour of India in 2001, has been repeatedly troubled with ligament damage.
In 36 Tests in all, the spinner has taken 151 wickets at an average of 28.47.
He should have joined English county side Lancashire last season but the contract had to be terminated because of his finger problems.
He flew to Australia for treatment but has so far opted for physiotherapy rather than having an operation.
