Gibbs was particularly unlucky in the second innings |
Both sides agreed technology should play a wider role after Pakistan's Test victory over South Africa in Lahore. The tourists were hard done when key batsmen Herschelle Gibbs and Jacques Kallis were given out caught off Shoaib Akhtar in the second innings.
Darrell Hair, the Australian umpire, sent both batsmen on their way. But replays showed no bat was involved in either incident.
There were other contentious decisions in South Africa's first innings.
South African captain Graeme Smith would not be drawn too far on the issue.
But he did say: "I think television has got to play a role somewhere."
Pakistan coach Javed Miandad also supported the idea of increased video technology.
He said: "The think tanks of the International Cricket Council should look into this matter.
Video screen
"They should do what is good for cricket."
For 10 years, 'line' decisions - involving stumpings and run outs - have routinely been referred to a third umpire watching a video screen.
But an attempt to allow further involvement of the extra official caused chaos in a failed experiment during the ICC Champions Trophy in September 2002.
More recently, a plan to allow umpires to use earpieces to hear a stump microphone was shelved due to high costs.
But the ICC are more confident about a plan to paint white lines on the wickets to assist with lbw decisions.
