Coach Adi Birrell is seeking strong performances in England |
Dublin's Eoin Morgan is poised to become the youngest player to represent Ireland at cricket. The teenage all-rounder has been called into the Ireland side for their short tour to south-east England this week.
Morgan is brought in following the withdrawal of former North County team colleague Conor Armstrong due to a family bereavement.
Morgan, who joined English county Middlesex earlier in the season, is still just 16, and looks set to be handed his debut by Irish coach Adi Birrell during the four-match itinerary.
Before Morgan, the youngest player was Phoenix batsman DM Trotter who made his debut aged 17 back in 1875.
Dublin student
Morgan, who has scored a couple of centuries for the Middlesex second XI, is a fifth-year student at CUS in Dublin.
Birrell will be looking for some encouraging results prior to their three-leg Inter-Continental qualifier against Denmark at the start of September.
Ireland start their tour with a game against Friends of Arundel on Monday, then travel to Lord's to face MCC the following day.
Birrell then takes his squad to Eton College on Wednesday to face Free Foresters before finishing up with a game against Club Cricket Conference at Shenley on Thursday.
