Ireland made a winning start to the Women's World Cup qualifying tournament in the Netherlands despite being bowled out for 84 by the West Indies. The Irish were rescued by their bowlers with Barbara McDonald 4-13, Catherine O'Neill 4-15 and Isobel Joyce 2-12 skittling their Caribbean opponents for just 52 to secure a 32-run victory.
Scotland, however, were on the receiving end against hosts Holland for whom Pauline te Beest hit 138 to lead them to a total of 300-5.
Skipper Kari Anderson was the best bowler for the Scots with 3-64, but she was unable to inspire her team with the bat and they were all out for 74, with Linda Spence's 23 the top score as they slumped to a 226-run defeat.
Japan's women suffered a chastening experience in their first overseas international fixture as they barely made it into double figures against Pakistan, who had earlier totalled 181-6.
Sajida Shah returned the remarkable bowling figures of 7-4 from eight overs, with Kursheed Jabeen taking 3-2.
