Smit and Taylor celebrate a World Cup victory in 1993 |
The England women's team are to face their World Cup-winning counterparts from 1993 in a special charity match. The World Cup Challenge will be played at Lord's on Friday with Clare Connor leading the current England side.
But they must manage without Clare Taylor and Jane Smit, who were part of the team which defeated New Zealand by 67 runs in the '93 final.
All proceeds from the game will go to the Cot Death Society.
"It will be the first time the '93 team have all been together since winning the World Cup.
"The team spirit was immense then, and as there are players who haven't picked up their bats since, it will have to be on Friday too," said Taylor.
"It's a great way to celebrate the 10th anniversary, and it will be a fun game - but I'm sure it will be competitive."
The present day England side are fresh from home Test and one-day series victories over South Africa.
