Gus Logie has been appointed coach of the West Indies after filling a caretaker role in the Test series' against Australia and Sri Lanka. The 42-year-old former Test batsman replaces Roger Harper, his former West Indies team-mate who resigned in April after competing his three-year contract.
Logie, who played 52 Tests and 158 one day internationals, was not the first choice of the the West Indies Cricket Board.
Australian Bennett King was offered the job but opted to keep his job as the head coach of the Australian Cricket Academy.
"I am excited about being appointed coach of the senior West Indies team; it's another opportunity to serve West Indies cricket at another level," said Logie after his position was confirmed on Wednesday.

He said he hoped to build on the encouraging two homes series against Australia and Sri Lanka. They lost the first three Tests against Australia but then scored the highhest winning total in test history to win the fourth Test.
They also recorded a 1-0 series vicotry over Sri Lanka.
"We started something with this team in Guyana against the Australians which has worked for us and we will be looking to continue in this vein," he said.
"We want to show the players that commitment and personal responsibility, along with the right attitude, discipline and hard work are the only ways that they can improve as individuals, as a team and in world cricket."
Logie coached Canada at the 2003 Cricket World Cup in South Africa.
