Boje was injured shortly after coming onto the field |
South African spinner Nicky Boje was undergoing surgery on Wednesday on his fractured leg. The 30-year-old snapped his left fibula and ruptured ligaments in his ankle during Tuesday's one-day defeat to England at Edgbaston.
He had only just come on to the pitch as a substitute fielder in place of Martin van Jaarsveld when he fell awkwardly fielding an innocuous shot into the covers.
Boje was having surgery at a hospital in Nottingham and was set to fly home to South Africa when fit enough.
He was not included in the squad for South Africa's five-Test series against England, which starts later this month at Edgbaston.
Van Jaarsveld was also injured in the game. He had to have a scan after being struck by the ball in the groin area.
He has now been released from hosiptal and has re-joined the South Africa squad.
South Africa play Zimbabwe on Thursday at the Rose Bowl in Hampshire before playing England in the triangular series final at Lord's on Saturday.
