Waugh is regularly feted by the children at Udayan |
Australian Test captain Steve Waugh is to star in a feature film about cricket and children to highlight leprosy in India. A script has already been prepared and Waugh's manager is now seeking an Indian director to shoot it.
Waugh and his wife Lynette support Udayan, a home near Calcutta for the children of leprosy patients.
They visited it on Wednesday, presenting medical aid worth 50,000 Australian dollars (20,400).
Hundreds of people crowded the charity home to watch Waugh play cricket and football with the overjoyed children.
Waugh, who handed out soccer and rugby balls among the boys, was garlanded in a traditional Indian welcome.
His wife was welcomed with a smear of vermilion on her forehead.
The Australian skipper hopes to raise 250,000 Australian dollars (102,000) annually in aid for the charity that was started in 1998.
Waugh has been involved since a worker at Udayan asked him to visit during Australia's tour of India in 1998.
