Kallis joy at second century
Kallis hit his second century of the weekend in a 46-run win
Kallis hit his second ton of the weekend

South Africa's Jacques Kallis was pleased to make amends against Zimbabwe after Saturday's defeat to England.

The all-rounder scored his second century in as many days but on Sunday he was on the right side of a 46-run verdict - South Africa's first win of the NatWest Series.

Kallis hit a well-paced 125 not out - his highest one-day international score - as South Africa recovered from a tough start to post a daunting 272-5.

"We didn't play well [against England] so it was nice to put things right," he said.

"We had to bide our time but we knew it would get easier and the guys down the order played a magnificent role."

Key in the recovery was Andrew Hall, who hit a blistering 56 from 51 balls with three sixes as South Africa moved up the gears from 84-3 at the half-way point.

And the all-rounder took the key wicket of Travis Friend for 82 just as Zimbabwe were threatening another upset, on the way to figures of 3-38.

"Hally's a really gutsy guy," said captain Graeme Smith. "He turned the innings around momentum-wise and bowled well too.

"We were under pressure early and Zimbabwe bowled well to keep the pressure up front but we turned it on when we needed to."

Towards the end we let a few chances slip
Heath Streak
Counterpart Heath Streak was pleased by Friend's performance but rued dropped catches that allowed South Africa to add crucial late runs.

Despite his impressive bowling, Doug Hondo was the main culprit, spilling two chances in the deep and putting down a caught-and-bowled chance off Kallis when he had made just 21.

"If we had kept them to 250 it could have been gettable on this wicket," Streak said.

"We needed a good start [in reply] but their openers bowled tidily and we were always playing catch-up; it was always a difficult total to chase."

All three teams in the series now have a single win from two matches and six point each.

Zimbabwe face England at Headingley on Tuesday and South Africa face the hosts two days later under floodlights at Old Trafford.
