England off to a flier
James Anderson
By James Anderson
England fast bowler

It was excellent for England to win the NatWest Challenge against a very strong Pakistan side.

I was quite pleased overall with the way I bowled - it's not everyday you take a hat-trick.

I had taken a hat-trick earlier in the season for Lancashire at Old Trafford and that was special in front of my home crowd.

But it was a lot more spectacular at The Oval.

It is hard to describe the feeling when the whole place erupted and my colleagues jumped all over me when I bowled Mohammad Sami. It was amazing.

Anderson celebrates a first one-day hat-trick by an England player
There was a great atmosphere in the changing room after we had won the series and we had a few drinks to celebrate.

We were told to have a bit of fun in the first three one-day games and express ourselves.

We obviously wanted to win but no-one knew how we would gel together - it has happened much quicker than we thought.

There is still work to be done on my own bowling.

I went for far too many runs, so I need to be more consistent with my line and length.

But having someone like Darren Gough in the squad is a big help.

He is great to have in the side because of his experience - and his smile!

Now we have to turn our attentions to the NatWest Series against Zimbabwe and South Africa.

I think Zimbabwe will pose more of a threat in the one-dayers than they did in the Tests.

They have got a few new faces we have not played before.

I think South Africa are the second best team in world cricket so to perform well against them will show just how we are progressing.

It's flattering being called the David Beckham of cricket

South Africa had a bad World Cup and have changed things around a bit.

I have played against Jacques Rudolph and Martin van Jaarsveld in the Lancashire League.

Andrew Hall is a good player and Herschelle Gibbs is one we will be aiming to get out early doors because he is a dangerous player who scores heavily in one-day cricket.

I think if we can carry on with the good team spirit and good form from our matches against Pakistan, we stand every chance of winning the NatWest Series.

It has been nice to spend a couple of days off with my friends.

I went shopping in London on Monday - there are a few more shops there than in Burnley.

And my aunt Caroline has trimmed my hair for me as well.

Some people in the media have been calling me the David Beckham of cricket.

It's flattering but I'd rather be remembered for being James Anderson and let my cricket do the talking.
