Alec Stewart's call for a younger player to be picked as England's one-day wicket-keeper prompted a raft of speculation about Glamorgan youngster Mark Wallace's chances.
But the player himself insists that any talk of international cricket is somewhat premature.
"I think I'm a fair way down the pecking order - Chris Read was very impressive this winter, then there's James Foster and Andy Pratt," Wallace told BBC Wales Sport.
"But if I continue putting in good performances for Glamorgan there's no reason why my name can't be up there in a year or so."
Wallace, 21, is in just his second full season of county cricket, but he is a former England Under-19 captain and has spent the last two summers at the National Academy in Adelaide.

He feels that the coaching in Australia has brought his game along, and looks forward to the challenge of batting higher up the order this season.
"The days of the keeper batting down the order have long gone," said Wallace, "I'd like to make my career batting at six.
"I should have done a lot better with the bat last year - I've got to convert the 20s and 30s into bigger scores."
For me it's Wallace or Read |
If Wallace is somewhat reticent about his England chances, his experienced Glamorgan colleague Matthew Maynard has no doubt about the player's abilities.
Maynard, whose part-time keeping kept Wallace from behind the stumps in the early part of last season, says the England selectors should be looking at the youngster now.
"He's up there," said Maynard, "there's Chris Read and Foster at Essex who the selectors are keen on, but for me it's Wallace or Read.
"He's had another good winter and has come back looking great with the bat and in form with the gloves.
"His game has been developed 10-fold in the last two winters at the Academy."
