Lancashire showed reigning champions Surrey may not have it all their own way this season with an opening day of complete domination.

Stuart Law finished the day 129 not out and Mal Loye had a Lancashire debut to remember to remain unbeaten on 104.

Just as pleasing for the visitors was the form of another new signing Iain Sutcliffe, the ex-Leicestershire batsman who made 70.

Pakistani spinner Saqlain Mushtaq was the only bowler to claim a wicket after Alec Swann fell to a run-out for 57.

The Surrey attack toiled with usual members Martin Bicknell and Jimmy Ormond not selected.
