Malik will fight on
Salim Malik
Malik played 103 Tests and 283 one-day internationals
Former Pakistan captain Salim Malik says he will go to the Supreme Court in his fight to overturn a life ban from the game.

The ban and a one million rupee (200,000) fine were imposed two years ago following Justice Qayyum's investigation into match-fixing allegations against a number of Pakistan players.

And Malik's appeal against it was rejected by the High Court in Lahore on Tuesday.

"I am waiting for the final judgement of the Lahore High Court and would then appeal in the Supreme court," Malik said.

"Naturally I am disappointed because the ban has not only affected my career but my whole life."

A full judgement from Lahore High Court Justice Karamat Bhandar is expected to be released on Thursday.

Australian players Shane Warne, Tim May and Mark Waugh alleged Malik offered them bribes to underperform during Australia's tour of Pakistan in 1994-95.

But the 39-year-old has always protested his innocence.

"For me it's not a matter of playing again for Pakistan, its a matter of cleaning my image and for that I will fight till the last," Malik said.

Lawyer Raja Jahanzeb Akhtar said they would "definitely fight to the last".

He added: "We filed the appeal because the life ban was imposed on him without first hearing his viewpoint or seeking clarification from him."

Former pace bowler Ata-ur-Rehman was also banned for life as a result of the Qayyum report, while six other players - Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Saeed Anwar, Inzamam-ul Haq, Mushtaq Ahmed and Akram Raza - were fined.

Three other players are also serving life bans as a result of investigations in their countries - South African Hansie Cronje and Indian duo Mohammad Azharuddin and Ajay Sharma.
