Batting duo back for England women
Harmer is determined that results will improve
Coach John Harmer will be working the players hard
The England women's team have been boosted by the return of top batsmen Charlotte Edwards and Claire Taylor ahead of what will be a busy summer.

Edwards has not played international cricket since the 2000 World Cup in New Zealand after suffering cruciate ligament damage to her knee, and injury which required surgery.

Taylor made 137 against Australia during the Women's Ashes series last summer and was seen as a key player on the tour to India which followed.

But she twisted her knee in training before the opening match and was unable to play any part in the series.

Both have now recovered, however, and are part of an 18-strong squad taking part in a training get-together at Edgbaston this weekend.

Also returning are Sarah Collyer and Laura Harper, who were unable to travel to India because of college exams.

The selectors have to slim the squad down to 14 for the triangular one-day series against World Cup holders New Zealand and India, which takes place in July.

Prior to that, the players will be taking part in a new Super Fours competition.

"It was difficult to choose 18 players as we welcomed back many talented cricketers either from injury or the university commitments which kept them at home this winter.

"It will be harder to chose the final 14, especially if Super Fours proves as competitive as we think it will," said chairman of selectors Patsy Lovell.

England training squad: C Connor (capt), Clare Taylor (vice-capt), C Atkins, J Cassar, S Clarke, S Collyer, C Edwards, M Godliman, L Harper, J Hawker, D Holden, H Lloyd, L Newton, L Pearson, L Spragg, Claire Taylor, A Thompson, H Wardlaw.
