Things went according to plan for skipper Waqar Younis as Pakistan put themselves in position to press for victory at cricket's newest Test venue.

He picked up four wickets in 28 balls during the morning session to wrap up West Indies' first innings and then saw his batsmen score quickly enough to enable him to declare 10 overs before the close.

The only setback for Younis was Pakistan's failure to make early inroads as Daren Ganga and Chris Gayle survived a tense final period.

West Indies began the day on 325 for five and Shivnarine Chanderpaul and debutant Ryan Hinds extended their partnership to 121 before Younis yorked Chanderpaul for 66.

Chanderpaul's exit sparked a collapse
Hinds followed one run later when he top-edged an attempted pull and was caught behind by Rashid Latif for 62, after hitting seven fours in an impressive 131-ball effort.

The collapse continued as Merv Dillon was run out for five and Younis wrapped thing up by bowling Cameron Cuffy and having Ridley Jacobs caught at deep fine leg to give him figures of four for 93.

He now needs just two more wickets to reach 350 in Tests.

Dillon strikes

Pakistan batted cautiously to reach 21 for nought at lunch, but stepped up the tempo following the resumption.

Naveed Latif was caught behind off Dillon for 20 and opening partner Taufiq Umer was run out for 23 when Younis Khan failed to heed his call for a single.

Younis put on 47 for the third wicket with Inzamam-ul-Haq before he edged Cuffy to wicket-keeper Jacobs shortly befopre the tea interval after making 32.

Cuffy removed Yousuf Youhana for 12, but Inzamam contributed 48 and Latif hustled to 47 not out off 42 balls before Younis called a halt, leaving West Indies to a target of 342.

The normally aggressive Gayle reined himself in and faced 31 balls for his five not out at the close, with Ganga the more fluent in making an unbeaten 19.
