Two down at lunch and four down at tea, Pakistan were in danger of failing to make use of a handy toss won by their skipper Waqar Younis. But Youhana ended the day on 78 not out, and at 230-5, Pakistan have a platform for a decent first innings score. Earlier, Mervyn Dillon and Carl Hooper combined well to keep Pakistan in check in a match watched by just 50 fans in Sharjah. Acceleration After just 45 runs were scored in the morning session, Pakistan were at least able to quicken their run-rate in the run-up to tea. But they lost the key wickets of Inzamam-ul-Haq and Younis Khan in the process. Inzamam perished when he was caught behind off Dillon for 10. Younis hit 52 in a 129-ball stay at the crease before Hooper had him caught by Chris Gayle in the slips when an attempted square cut went wrong. It was Dillon who had the first wicket of the day - trapping debutant Naved Latif for a duck. And just before lunch, Hooper clean bowled Taufiq Umer for 24 to give West Indies the upper hand in the first session. Pakistan fire in final session The lunch time score of 45-2 became 137-4, and the West Indies were doing well. But the final session was all Pakistan - 93 runs for the loss of one wicket - Abdur Razzaq, caught behind off Wavell Hinds for 34. That ended a stand of 84 for the fifth wicket with Youhana. Rashid Latif was 27 not out at the close. The Pakistan Cricket Board was forced to shift the series, comprising two tests and three one-day internationals, to Sharjah after West Indies refused to travel to Pakistan, citing security concerns. But the series has failed to generate any excitement with just a handful fans turning up to watch the very first Test match at the 22,000-capacity stadium.
