![]() | Friday, 14 December, 2001, 08:59 GMT Pakistan stick with Shoaib ![]() Shoaib Akhtar: Hoping for an incident-free tour Fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has been included in Pakistan's squad for the tour to Bangladesh despite ongoing concerns about the legality of his bowling action. He was reported to the International Cricket Council for the second time this year following the Champions Trophy tournament in Sharjah. But the Pakistan Cricket Board says a new report by the University of Western Australia's Department of Human Movement confirms that Akhtar's action is a result of "peculiar anatomical characteristics that lead to the erroneous perception of throwing". Under existing International Cricket Council guidelines, however, he could face a 12-month ban if his action is reported again on the tour. Akhtar missed Pakistan's training camp at Lahore because he has been playing club cricket in Australia. He will link up with the rest of the squad, which will again be captained by Waqar Younis, a few days prior to their departure on 27 January.
Opening batsman Shadab Kabir has been recalled to the squad after a five-year absence. The 24-year-old left-hander made his debut at Lord's on the 1996 tour to England but was dropped from the national team after only three appearances. He has earned a recall by scoring almost 700 runs in the Patron's Trophy and Pakistan hope that this time he will establish himself at Test level. "We want to groom a pair of dependable openers for Pakistan for the future. Kabir and Taufiq Umar are certainly good prospects," said chief selector Wasim Bari. Pakistan will play two Test matches and three one-day internationals during the tour. It will be their second meeting with Bangladesh at Test level, having thrashed them by an innings and 264 runs at Multan in August. Pakistan tour squad: Waqar Younis (captain), Inzamam-ul-Haq, Saeed Anwar, Taufiq Umar, Faisal Iqbal, Yousaf Youhana, Naveed Latif, Younis Khan, Rashid Latif, Saqlain Mushtaq, Danish Kaneria, Wasim Akram, Muhammad Sami, Abdur Razzaq, Shoaib Akhtar, Shadab Kabir. | See also: Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Other top Cricket stories: Links to more Cricket stories are at the foot of the page. | |||
