Stadiums offer for Pakistan
Cricket under the lights in Sharjah
Sharjah has staged 174 one-day internationals
Sharjah and Morocco are willing to stage Test matches for Pakistan if they are unable to play at home for a prolonged period because of security fears.

Abdul Rahman Bukhatir, president of the Cricketers' Benefit Fund Series (CBFS), owns stadiums in Sharjah and Tangier, both of which could be ready at short notice.

"We have a top-class infrastructure," CBFS chief executive Zahid Noorani told the Reuters News Agency.

"If given the responsibility, we will go all out to help the ICC in organising both Test and one-day series at our venues in Sharjah and Morocco.

"It's true that no international match has been staged in Morocco so far, but we do organise inter-regional matches there. We have five wickets, all maintained to international standard."

New Zealand cancelled last month's trip to Pakistan because of security fears following the terrorist attacks in the United States.

The US action in neighbouring Afghanistan led Sri Lanka to withdraw after offering to act as an emergency replacement.

The two decisions, following on from India's refusal to tour earlier this year for political reasons, means the Pakistan Cricket Board has incurred huge losses.

Uncertainty surrounding visits to the sub-continent will be discussed at next week's meeting of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in Kuala Lumpur.

That meeting, too, has been transferred from Lahore because of security worries.

"We would be more than willing to help Pakistan and I understand the Pakistan Cricket Board has already agreed in principle to staging home Test and one-day matches in independent venues," Noorani added.

The Pakistan team will be in Sharjah later this month for a triangular one-day competition, also involving Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.
