Commonweath Games 2010: Second shooting gold for Walton

Redditch clay pigeon shooter Stevan Walton has won his second Commonwealth Games gold medal in as many days.

"You come hoping to win but 'hoping' is the key word. To get it is fantastic," Walton told BBC Hereford & Worcester.

"In the first two rounds I shot 49, then held it together in the last one. In the final, luckily it went my way."

Walton had teamed up with Steve Scott on Wednesday, overcoming India's Ronjan Sodhi and Asher Noria to claim gold in the pairs double trap.

And, in Thursday's individual event, it was again Sodji who provided Walton with his biggest challenge.

While there has been widely documented criticism of the facilities in Delhi for the Games, Walton feels that this aspect might have been hyped up in the British press.

I am not going to do any celebrating until I get home - I am just going to relax in the pool and chill out

"All the stuff on the television and radio in the run-up to the Games, I couldn't see," he said.

"Where I am staying and sleeping is fantastic, as are the grounds here. The apartments have been very good so I can't complain at all."

The Worcestershire shooter admitted that the impact of what he had achieved had not really sunk in.

"My smile is massive, I tell you," he said. "It is like 12 feet long.

"I can now relax and go and watch the gymnastics and track and field.

"I am not going to do any celebrating until I get home. I am just going to relax in the pool and chill out."

Walton, a second team regular at Redditch Rugby Club, also plays rugby league for North East Worcestershire Ravens.
