James wins silver in the Sprint for Wales Wales' Becky James was beaten into silver in the women's sprint as Australia won yet another track cycling gold medal at the Commonwealth Games. Double world junior champion James suffered a 2-0 best-of-three loss to multiple world, Olympic and Commonwealth medallist Anna Meares. Both finishes were incredibly tight with Meares just crossing the line first to claim her third Games medal. James, 18, from Abergavenny reached the final after beating Kaarle McCulloch. "Coming through the semi-finals, not many people get to race Anna Meares in a final so I'm just speechless," she said. "My second ride was definitely better than the first one and it was so close on the finish line, I wasn't even sure who got it. "I use this as a stepping stone. All my aims are to get to an Olympics event. "Coming away from here with a silver and bronze medal has definitely stepped up my expectations of what I want to do next." James claimed her bronze on Tuesday after finish behind Meares and fellow Australian McCulloch to in the women's 500m time-trial.
