Games chief laments lack of cash

Commonwealth Youth Games
Commonwealth Games Team meet Jersey's Lieutenant Governor General Andrew Ridgeway

Jersey's Commonwealth Games Association needs 10,000 to help send a team to the Youth Commonweath Games in Pune, India this October.

Secretary of the CGAJ Alan Cross thought the island's finance industry would have jumped at the chance to sponsor the elite sportsmen and women.

"I thought it would be much easier to find a sponsor for the youth than for the main Games," he told BBC Jersey.

"These are our future athletes of the island and they are going to do well."

The CGA did recieve 6,000 from Education Sports and Culture but the total cost of taking the Jersey team to Pune will be in excess of 40,000.

"We are short about 10,000 but even a sum less than that would help to cover expences," Cross said.
