Cornish kayaker Jenna Hawkey, is set to represent Great Britain in the Under-23 European Flatwater Canoeing Championship in Poznan, Poland.

The event gets underway on Thursday when Hawkey will take to the water in the K2 (pairs) 1000m heats.

On Friday the 23-year-old will be back in action in the K4 (fours) 500m heats, with the final of both events taking place on Saturday.

The event will be the first time Hawkey has competed in K2 internationally.

The GB K4 crew came fourth in the 500m at the European Championships in 2007 and Hawkey told BBC Radio Cornwall they are "hoping to improve on that this year."

Hawkey competes in the K2 with Abi Edmunds from Guilford.

In the K4 crew, Hawkey and Edmunds are joined by Angela Hannah and Viki Towers who are both from Nottingham.

Hawkey, from Portreath, splits her kayak training between the River Fal and Dorney Lake near Windsor.
