Sprott (L) lost out to Audley Harrison in April
Former British champion Michael Sprott says he is ready to claim the heavyweight Prizefighter title. Reading-based Sprott will face Sunderland's Danny Hughes in the opening round of the tournament in Bethnal Green on Saturday. "It's fast, furious and explosive. It's a knockout tournament so anything can happen," he told BBC Radio Berkshire. "I know I can reverse the tables this time round, I've trained hard so I'm ready to take the title." Sprott lost out to Audley Harrison when they battled it out for the European heavyweight title in April. And although he is more experienced than Hughes, Sprott says he will not underestimate his younger opponent, who has also faced Harrison. "It's going to be a tough fight. He is an up and coming heavyweight and he did well against Audley last time but I am confident I can beat him." If Sprott progresses in the competition then he could be pitted against Matt Skelton in the final, a fixture Sprott has lost twice before. "I am confident I am going to put an end to it and win this time," he said. "The last fight we had wasn't a good fight. It was a poor performance from both of us and he just stole the result."
