World super-featherweight champion Roman Martinez says he can see fear in the eyes of Ricky Burns, who will fight him for his WBO title on Saturday.

Burns and his Puerto Rican opponent met for the first time on Wednesday ahead of their bout at Glasgow's Kelvin Hall.

Martinez, 27, told BBC Scotland: "I can see nervousness in his eyes. When you are an experienced fighter, you see when someone is a bit fearful."

The undefeated champion has a record of 15 knockouts in his 25 fights.

Martinez is clearly confident that he can see off the challenge of Burns.

On Tuesday, when asked about Burns' popularity, Martinez said: "I thank him for letting me come here, but after I finish with him I will be the number one in Scotland.

"Ricky Burns is a colourful fighter; he is very difficult, technical.

"But I'm 100% confident and ready for Saturday night to defend my title here in Scotland and take it home."

Martinez was displaying his remarkable hand speed while sparring at Morrison's Gym in Glasgow's east end.

Speaking through an interpreter, the boxer told BBC Scotland that he was unfazed at the world title bout being switched from his home country to Glasgow.

"I have no problem coming to fight in Scotland. Real warriors will fight anywhere in the world," he said.

"I have no worries at all. I have prepared myself mentally and physically to take my title back to where it belongs, in the Caribbean, in Puerto Rico."

Martine stopped Essex fighter Nicky Cook in Manchester last March to win the WBO belt.
