Gavin was taken all the way by Peter McDonagh in February |
Birmingham boxer Frankie Gavin says he is happy to go the distance again as he looks to extend his unbeaten professional record on 15 May. Gavin, 24, fights Gavin Tait at Upton Park in London on Saturday over eight rounds, three months after his points win over Peter McDonagh. "I've seen him and he seems decent and has never been stopped but I have the skills to beat him," Gavin told BBC WM. "It's got a good chance of going the distance but that's no problem for me." Three of Tait's eight career wins have come in his last three contests and the 34-year-old took Amir Khan the distance in the current world light-welterweight champion's second professional fight in 2005. But former world amateur champion Gavin is not worried by that. | Now I'm fighting as a pro I'm showing a different side to me. |
"Those sorts of fighters are just there to help better ones have learning fights," he said. "He hasn't really beaten anyone and he hasn't really lost to anyone so I should be taking care of these people quite easily." Gavin goes into the contest in confident mood of extending his perfect record with a seventh win and says his training has definitely stepped up. "We do different training every day. We're never all power, we're more speed and add power into it. "Now I'm fighting as a pro I'm showing a different side to me. Speed kills and if I keep catching them they'll go," Gavin added.
