Maccarinelli is desperate to become the first Welshman to regain a world title |
Former world champion Enzo Maccarinelli returned to winning ways with a first-round stoppage of Hungary's over-matched Krisztian Jaksi in Newcastle. The Swansea cruiserweight, an ex-WBO champion, had suffered knock-out losses in three of his previous four bouts. Maccarinelli is still only 29 and has a formidable 30-4 (with 23 KOs) record. He was too much for 24-year-old Jaksi on the Amir Khan undercard at the Metro Radio Arena, the Budapest man now having lost 13 of his 23 fights. Maccarinelli contemplated retirement after his knockout defeat to Russian Denis Lebedev in July. The big-hitting Welshman lost his crown last year to David Haye.
