Clinton Woods is preparing for his 10th world title fight |
British and Commonwealth light-heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly says he is ready to face Clinton Woods whenever the match can be made. "I know Woods is fighting for a world title, but I reckon I'm the best light-heavyweight in the country and I'd love to fight him, anytime," he said. Woods, 37, faces Tavoris Cloud for the IBF title in Florida on 28 August. Cleverly, 22, is out next at the Odyssey Arena, Belfast, on 9 October, his opponent yet to be decided. The undefeated Cefn Fforest man, 22, will be the chief support to Martin Rogan and Sam Sexton's grudge fight for the Commonwealth heavyweight title. | 606: DEBATE |
"I feel like I'm on fire at the moment," said Cleverly. "I have won my last four fights by stoppage, and I'm going to make it five out of five on 9 October and really put myself in the spotlight. "People will see the best of me the more I fight... Ireland has some of the most passionate fans in the world, and I can't wait to show everyone over there what I'm made of. "By this time next year I want to have moved on to the world stage, and I am so confident that I will get there." Cleverly won the Commonwealth crown in Liverpool last year and has had title fights in Widnes, Swindon and London. The Welshman is one of nine fighters up for the young boxer of the year award and is joint favourite with Kell Brook to claim the prestigious prize. Also appearing on the 9 October show will be Neil Sinclair, Kevin O'Hara, Ciaran Healy, Joe Rea and flyweight debutant Jamie Conlan.
