Huyton flyweight Paul Lowe hopes to debut as the world's shortest professional boxer within six weeks.

The 4ft 8in 28-year-old saw a proposed fight against Kyle Anthony King cancelled last Friday after the Welshman failed to make the weight.

"Frank Maloney was just as disappointed as I was as he wanted to show me off," Lowe told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"He said he wants to get me out as soon as he can. Fingers crossed I'll be out in four to six weeks time."

Lowe's trainer Peter McCormack pulled his man out of the fight after King weighed in at 8st 6lbs for a fight that had been made at 8st.

In contrast, Lowe who had 'bulked up' for the fight, came in at 7st 10lbs.

Despite the huge media attention accompanying the fight McCormack is adamant he did the right thing: "It was a massive decision as he'd sold his tickets and all his fans has travelled down to Stoke.

"I picked him up from his house earlier in the day and shook hands with his mum and dad.

"I pulled him because at the end of the day if I wouldn't let one of my own sons do it, why should I let someone else's?"

The hunt is now on to find Lowe a suitable opponent. When asked if a fight against King could be rescheduled, McCormack was sceptical.

"There's no way on this earth, looking at the condition of the lad and the look on everyone's face around him, that he'd ever make 8st, ever," said McCormack.

Despite Friday's setback, Lowe is confident his team can help him forge a career in professional boxing.

"Frank Maloney is still eager to get me out there and he was really pleased with how things had gone leading up to the fight," he added.

"He wasn't annoyed at me and he fully understood the position I was in. He said 'listen I know it's obviously not going to happen tonight, but it will happen really soon'."
