Paul McCloskey collected the British light welterweight title in December |
Dungiven southpaw Paul McCloskey will make the first defence of his British light-welterweight title against Scotland's Barry Morrison next month. McCloskey will take on former British champion Morrison at the Kingsway Leisure Centre in Wigan on 13 March. The Northern Irishman clinched the title when he stopped Colin Lynes in nine rounds in Dagenham in December. McCloskey had been hoping to take on Morrison in Belfast but the demands of TV mean the contest will be in Wigan. The Dungiven fighter, who has won all 18 of his professional bouts, is in line to land a European title shot last this year. McCloskey is currently rated as number one challenger to champion Gianluca Branco, who is scheduled to face Junior Witter in the coming months.
