Higgs hopes to box at close to lightweight in his first few bouts |
Lydney's Chris Higgs recorded a points win in his first professional bout at the Oasis Centre in Swindon on Friday. The 21-year-old lightweight beat Daniel Thorpe despite suffering a cut over his left eye in the fourth round. His dad Bryan told BBC Gloucestershire: "He coped well, stayed with it and overall was fantastic. He was buzzing before the fight and it showed." Higgs is likely to box again in the spring on another Keith Mayo promotion at the same venue. It had been hoped that his next fight would be in December but that has been ruled out because of the cut Higgs suffered against Thorpe. There is also a chance that at some stage in the future he may box in Gloucestershire. His father added : "We want to bring him along steadily, but there is interest locally. We've had a chat with Keith Mayo and with Sean Holmes at Gloucester Boxing Club and we'd love to do a pro-am bill in Gloucester. "
