Cox has break before gym return

Jamie Cox
Cox is undefeated with seven wins from seven fights

Jamie Cox has given himself a few days rest before starting training ahead of fighting in Swindon on October 17.

The 22-year-old Commonwealth gold medal winner has won all seven fights in his professional career so far, beating Steve Cronklin in London last Friday.

Cox told BBC Radio Swindon: "I'm going to have four or five days off relaxing before I get back into it.

"I'm not going to be unfit in five days, but I need a break before I start getting my head back on the game."

Cox's opponent for his next fight is still yet to be announced and although he can see it looming in the calendar, the thrill of fighting in Swindon looks unlikely to distract him from his bigger aims.

"It's great to box in my home town of Swindon and I think it's only about five weeks until then," added Cox.

"But I'm only a few fights away from a title and 17 October is moving me forward for that."

The night at the Oasis Leisure Centre in Swindon is being billed as 'the professionals are back' and with a flagship talent like Cox to work with promoter Keith Mayo is hoping that there will be more boxing nights in the town in the future.

Mayo said: "I just think now's the right time, we've got some good boxers in the town now at long last.

"All I want to do is try and give value for money so we can have the first one, hopefully we'll sell it out and then we'll go on and do some more."
