Kessler (right) has now lost just one of his 41 pro fights |
Mikkel Kessler regained the vacant WBA super-middleweight title with a 12th-round knockout of Dimitri Sartison in Copenhagen on Sunday morning. Kessler lost his WBA and WBC belts when he was outpointed by Wales' Joe Calzaghe in Cardiff last November. The Dane dominated from start to finish in front of a vociferous home crowd to inflict the first defeat on Kazhakstan's Sartison in 23 fights. The 29-year-old Kessler improves to 40 victories (30 KOs) and one defeat. In Memphis, Andre Berto claimed the vacant WBC welterweight title when he halted Miguel Rodriguez in the seventh round. Berto, who is now undefeated in 22 fights with 19 knockouts, picked up the WBC belt that became vacant when Floyd Mayweather retired. Berto floored Rodriguez with an uppercut in the seventh and when Rodriquez went down a second time the referee intervened.
