Clinton Woods hopes to return to the ring in September as he bids to win back his IBF light-heavyweight title.

The 36-year-old Sheffield fighter considered retiring after losing his crown to American Antonio Tarver in Tampa in April.

But Woods told BBC Radio Sheffield: "I feel I have a point to prove after losing to Tarver. That wasn't me in that ring.

"There's no way I want to call it a day after that performance."

But Woods admitted it would be a hard road back to reclaim his world title belt: "I know it's going to be tough and my next two fights will probably be more difficult than a world title fight, but I'm ready.

"I want to pay back my fans who spent a lot of money going to watch me in America."

Woods' promoter Dennis Hobson added: "It's not going to be easy but Clinton feels he has something to prove.

"He had an off-night against Tarver but he's entitled to have a blip in his career.

"We hope to have him back in the ring in September. He's determined to win back his title."
