Woods targets rematch with Jones
Clinton Woods and Roy Jones
Woods is keen to fight box-office names like Jones in America
IBF light-heavyweight champion Clinton Woods has set his sights on a rematch with American legend Roy Jones Jr.

Woods, 35, was outclassed by Jones, 39, in six rounds in September 2002 but the Sheffield fighter believes he has vastly improved since that defeat.

"I would love to fight Roy Jones again and this time I would beat him," said Woods, who defends his title against Antonio Tarver on 12 April in Tampa.

"I avenged my loss to Glencoffe Johnson and I would do the same to Jones."

Woods faces a tricky fight against 'Magic Man' Tarver, who co-starred with Sylvester Stallone in Rocky VI, but Jones expects the Englishman to come out on top.

606: DEBATE

"Clinton should win if he applies the pressure from early on," said Jones, who lost two of his three fights against Tarver.

"Tarver is essentially weak-minded and he gets nervous. He is mentally not the strongest person in boxing and this will be to Woods' advantage.

"I think Clinton will win and then he can fight me."

Jones is a former four-weight world champion and was named as the Fighter of the Decade for the 1990s by the Boxing Writers' Association of America.

He was taken the distance in his last fight with Puerto Rica's Felix Trinidad in January but won a unanimous points decision at Madison Square Gardens in New York.
