Paul McCloskey puts Manuel Garnica under pressure in Limerick |
Dungiven light-welterweight Paul McCloskey eased to an impressive points win over Mexican Manuel Garnica in Limerick on Saturday night. McCloskey outclassed Garnica, who has beaten two world champions, to take a 98-93 decision in the 10-round bout.
"I boxed within myself but knew I'd done enough," said McCloskey, who is now unbeaten in 15 fights.
Banbridge's Jason McKay earlier beat Martins Kukuls of Latvia on points in a super-middleweight contest.
Garnica had an impressive record coming into the fight and his victims include former world champions Carlos Maussa and Gabriel Ruelas.
His win over Maussa came just after the Colombian had lost his IBF world title to Ricky Hatton in 2006.
McCloskey accounted for Olympic silver medallist and former European champion Tontcho Tontchev in his previous outing in December.
