Williams was well on top when the ref declared a 'no contest' |
Danny Williams's latest fight ended in controversy when his opponent was cut after an apparent clash of heads. The Londoner looked to be in control against Oleg Platov in Basel when the referee stepped in to stop the bout.
Some reports claimed it was actually a right-hand shot from Williams which opened the cut over Platov's left eye.
The British heavyweight champion, 34, had weathered early pressure to take charge of the contest for the IBF's intercontinental belt.
Willams, who famously beat Mike Tyson with a fourth-round knockout in 2004, regained the British title in March by stopping Welshman Scott Gammer.
