Jamie Cox is just launching his professional career |
Promoter Frank Warren says welterweight Jamie Cox has what it takes to become a world champion. The 21-year-old 2006 Commonwealth Games gold medallist recorded the first stoppage of his professional career against Surinder Sekhon on Saturday.
Warren said: "Jamie is one of the best talents in England. He can go all the way and become a world champion. His style is suited to the pro game."
Cox added: "There's a great team behind me. We believe I can go all the way."
Southpaw Cox, appearing on the Amir Khan-Graham Earl undercard, dominated the contest before Sekhon hit the canvas twice in the third round and the referee stepped in.

It was his fourth win in four bouts since turning professional and he made light of the absence of his coach Richie Woodhall, who was in Las Vegas watching Ricky Hatton's fight against Floyd Mayweather.
"It wasn't difficult without Richie and Len because John Costello is part of my network and one of my full-time coaches, so with him being there in my corner I never thought I would lose," added the BBC West Young Sportsman of the Year.
"I was nervous at the start of the first round but picked it up after that.
"I've always said I can punch and I showed out there that I can punch, so I'm delighted to have stopped him.
"But really I'm not too bothered about whether it was on a stoppage or points. Getting the win was the most important thing."
