Calzaghe is hoping to move up a division |
Joe Calzaghe admits he may have to fight again at super-middleweight if he cannot find a big enough name at the next division. Calzaghe, 35, is hoping to fight Bernard Hopkins at light-heavyweight, but that may not be until next summer.
And with retirement planned in 2008, Calzaghe wants a fight in before that, possibly against Ronald 'Winky' Wright.
"Hopkins looks like he's not going to be ready until June or July and I'm not going to wait for six months," he said.
"I want to keep busy and if 2008 is going to be my last year, I want to be boxing in March, maybe April at the latest.
"Hopefully it will be at light-heavyweight but if I get a big fight at super-middleweight against somebody like Winky Wright I could go for that."
Wright, 36, has won 51 of his 56 bouts, but one of his four defeats came against Hopkins in July.
Calzaghe was crowned undisputed world super-middleweight champion last month after beating Mikkel Kessler, and planned to step up to light-heavyweight.
He had hoped that would be against Hopkins, 42, but he is a notoriously tough negotiator.
Sheffield's Clinton Woods says talks have opened over a British super-fight between himself and Calzaghe next year.
Woods, 35, the IBF light-heavyweight champion, said he would be ready for a match in March.
