The Pembroke Dock man, 30, signed a new three-year deal on Monday to continue a partnership stretching back to 2002.

Gammer lost his British crown to Danny Williams last March, but begins his comeback trail against Nigerian Franklin Egobe in Neath this Sunday.

"There was no hesitation signing with Paul again," Gammer told BBC Sport.

"We've worked well together and he's done well for me."

Gammer is back at the same Cwrt Herbert Sports Centre where he lost to Williams for an eight-rounder against Egobe, known as 'The Prince'.

The Nigerian is a late replacement for Colin Kenna, after the Southampton-based Irishman withdrew this week with a nose injury suffered in training.

But Gammer is nonplussed at the late swap, taking on board a hard lesson from his nine-round stoppage to Williams.

"I don't worry too much about them, I just prepare myself for the fight, get in good shape and crack-on," Gammer said.

"That's one of the main things I learnt from the Danny Williams fight, I changed things in my diet, my training and it didn't work.

"It's the first time I've ever changed what I do for an opponent and it didn't work, so I won't be doing that again."

Gammer bulked up for the fight expecting to face an outsize Williams, who surprised everyone by shrinking himself down to 16st 4lb.

That was the lightest the 33-year-old had been since his professional debut in 1995. Now comes the path back to a possible rematch against Williams, with Egobe the first step on Sunday afternoon.

The 6ft 4in Nigerian has a healthy 14-1 record, with 10 knock-outs, but has not fought since 2004.

However, the 31-year-old has now based himself in London and has been impressing during sparring sessions with Briton David Haye, who recently move up from cruiserweight to heavy.

If Gammer sees off Egobe the plan is for a British title eliminator in the autumn against Horndon-based John McDermott.

"This is the first fight back of three that I've got planned for Scott," said Boyce. "It'll keep him busy up until the end of October, maybe November.

"By that time Danny Williams will have either defended his British title or he'll be forced to defend it."

While a meeting with McDermott is one of the main stepping-stones back to a British title shot, the Kenna fight could also be rearranged at some point.

Gammer makes his return on the undercard of the Celtic light welterweight title fight that sees Loughor's Ceri Hall make his first defence against fellow Welshman Stuart Phillips.

Also on the card are Cardiff light heavyweight Wayne Brooks, bantamweight Ricky Owen of Swansea, Pembroke lightweight Henry Jones and young Aberystwyth middleweight Philip Dowse.
