British welterweight John O'Donnell has taken a swipe at rival Amir Khan ahead of his showdown with Christian Solano at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on 5 May. O'Donnell, a former junior Olympic gold medallist, faces Mexico's Solano on the Oscar de la Hoya-Floyd Mayweather undercard and aims to put on a show.
The 21-year-old said: "I'm going to show the American's what a world-class British prospect really looks like.
"I know I'm in a different league to Khan. People will realise that soon."
The Londoner, who has strong Irish heritage, added: "I sparred him a few years ago when we were the same weight and I wiped the floor with him."
O'Donnell heads into his bout against Solano in good form having won the English title in his last contest by out-pointing fellow unbeaten prospect Stuart Elwell.
He will be looking to continue his impressive record in Las Vegas when he competes alongside his Hennessy Sports stablemate John Murray.
They will both box over ten rounds with promoter Mick Hennessy confident the duo will make an impact on the big stage.
Hennessy said: "Not many get the chance to fight in the US at such a young age.
"It's a massive stage and it can be a daunting experience, but that's why I put these two forward. They are perfect for this job. They are special talents and will rise to the occasion."
