Dunne has won his opening 22 professional bouts |
Bernard Dunne will defend his European super-bantamweight title against Yersin Jailauov of Kazakhstan on 25 March at the Point Depot in Dublin. The Dubliner will be making the first defence of his title after his impressive victory over Esham Pickering at the same venue last November.
Jailauov suffered a second-round stoppage against former European Champion Michael Hunter last year.
However, many observers thought that the bout had been halted prematurely.
Dunne's promoter Brian Peters said that he had "terrible trouble" in try to secure an opponent for the bout.
"We offered some opponents twice the money they have ever received before and
still turned us down," said Peters.
"Maybe some think that Bernard is about to go for a world title and they are holding back for a vacant title fight but Bernard will fight four times this year and they will be defences of his European title.
"This guy is a tough fighter and although he lost in two rounds to Michael Hunter it was a very controversial, premature stoppage.
"Bernard has the class to fight for a world title now but I want him to be a more seasoned 12-round fighter and then we go for the big one."
