Hatton to fight Urango in Vegas
Ricky Hatton
Hatton almost came unstuck in his last fight against Luis Collazo
Ricky Hatton will make his Las Vegas debut when he challenges Colombia's Juan Urango for his old IBF light welterweight title on 20 January.

The fight will take place in the Paris Hotel on the famous Strip, where Hatton will bid to win back the title he won from Kosta Tszyu last June.

Mexico's former lightweight world champion Jose Luis Castillo has been lined up for later in the year.

Castillo is set to fight Cameroon's Herman Ngoudjo on the same card.

Hatton, 28, was forced to give up his IBF and WBA light welterweight titles before moving up a division to successfully claim the WBA welterweight title over Luis Collazo in Boston in May.

I don't just want to fight in Las Vegas once. I want to fight there two, three or four times

But the Manchester 'Hitman' struggled to carry his power up to the 147lb division and has decided his future lies at 10 stone.

Urango has won 17 and drawn one of his 18 professional encounters and won the vacant IBF belt from Australia's Naoufel Ben Rabah in June.

Hatton is intent on succeeding where numerous other British boxing stars have failed by turning his Las Vegas debut into a night to remember.

Frank Bruno was bludgeoned twice by Mike Tyson in 1989 and 1996 while Naseem Hamed, Lloyd Honeyghan and Barry McGuigan also all lost their world titles there.

"It was always one of my goals to top the bill in Las Vegas," said Hatton.

"The era of (Sugar Ray) Leonard, (Marvin) Hagler, (Thomas) Hearns and (Roberto) Duran was what got me into boxing and all their fights were there.

"The fact I am going to be fighting in the same city and topping the bill in a world title fight with my name up in lights on the Las Vegas Strip is the stuff that dreams are made of.

"A lot of people say I cannot look past this fight but of course I can, because I do not want my dream fight to come unstuck so it can give me extra motivation.

"I don't just want to fight in Las Vegas once. I want to fight there two, three or four times, and Urango is in the way of me doing that. I am living the dream and I don't want it to stop."
