Duran recorded 69 knock-outs in an illustrious career |
Panama boxing legend Roberto Duran has entered the World Boxing Hall of Fame. The 55-year-old, regarded as one of greatest lightweights of all time, was inducted at a ceremony in Los Angeles on Saturday.
A ferocious and durable fighter, Duran held world titles at four different weights and won 103 out of 119 fights in a career spanning 33 years.
"My induction is important not only for myself but for my country," said the man nicknamed "Hands of Stone".
Duran finally quit the sport in 2002 aged 50 after failing to recover from injuries sustained in a car crash.
He also held the world welterweight, light middleweight and middleweight belts.
Duran's most infamous moment though came in 1980 when he quit during the eighth round of his second bout with Sugar Ray Leonard saying "no mas" (no more).
