Pontycymmer boxing star Gwyn Williams has passed away at the age of 84. A former Welsh welterweight champion, Williams held a record of 56-15-1 (27 KOs) in a 13-year career stretching from 1938-51.
He could boast wins over Eddie Thomas, Cliff Curvis and Ronnie James, although all three went on to win rematches
Williams, who moved to Oxford at the age of nine and made the town his home, served as a paratroop instructor during World War II.
