Skelton switched to boxing from kickboxing in 2002

Skelton lost a split decision against Williams in February after a brutal 12 rounds which saw him employ some typically uncompromising tactics.

But after watching the fight again, the 39-year-old admits his "rough and ready style" may have been costly.

"I'd like to be a bit more technical, a bit more pure," said the Bedford boxer.

"Obviously the decision went against me but I've watched it through and I think there are little factors why the purists didn't see it going my way and I'm going to try to make amends."

Skelton, who only took up the sport in 2002 following a stint kickboxing in Japan, tried to out-bully Williams in London and was warned for using his head in the opening seconds.

And although the judges scored the fight 115-114, 114-115 and 116-113 to Williams, Skelton believes he can take a lot into the second fight on 8 July.

"Without sour grapes I feel like I did enough in the fight previously," Skelton added.

"Straight after the previous fight I called for a rematch because I felt I'd done enough and I want to put things right.

"In the earlier rounds it was probably a bit rough and ready. The referee didn't take any points off me, but we're all human and it probably stuck in the judges' minds.

"Sometimes I just like to come and have a fight. Maybe it's a street mentality but it's taken me so far."
